Are You Mindful of Other People?

20 Ways of Making You Socially Minded

You must be mindful of others if you are to get along well with them. You have to reasonably fit in with other people if you are to achieve true happiness. Their simple ways should not ignite your moods or tempers. While some people may be arrogant and ill mannered, you can get along better if you are socially minded. Here is a list of simple things that you can do in order to be attentive to the needs of your fellows.

  1. Have the tendency of liking people rather than disliking them.
  2. Always assume that other people like you, rather than dislike you.
  3. Take people as they come without paying too much attention about what they may think of you.
  4. Be strong enough not to be distressed when someone is rude or difficult.
  5. If you lose your temper in public, take the right steps, even apologizing to the aggrieved parties if possible.
  6. Train yourself to be diplomatic in nature. Never allow yourself to use foul language.
  7. Be well-mannered even kind to the sort of people that you do not like very much.
  8. In the event that you have hurt another person, do the best that you can to mend the situation.
  9. Consider your own ideals before thinking of other people’s wishes. But never ignore their desires.
  10. Agree to differ in opinions but still remain on friendly terms. That is, agree to disagree.
  11. Immediately you realize you are in the wrong, do not hesitate to say sorry. It’s very simple if you get used to it.
  12. In case you are compelled by your actions to apologize, do not regret having to do it.
  13. If a conversation sparks off a joke against you, do not be irritated or embarrassed. Take part in the funny part of it and then forget about it.
  14. If a friend starts a discussion about a subject that you are not personally interested in, do not scoff at them. Rather, aim at being tolerant.
  15. Form the habit of listening to other people as you like to talk and be listened to.
  16. If you find someone else being praised or appreciated for their good deeds, do not feel offended. Appreciating others makes you better at doing things that will bring you praise in the coming months, or years.
  17. Always keep your promises to do things with other people.
  18. If you find your fellow in a difficult situation, be quick to offer sympathy, cooperation or help.
  19. Have the inclination to share activity rather than being on your own.
  20. When you go out to mix with other people, expect to have fun. Fearing that the gathering will not be enjoyable is a way of making it so.

Being mindful of others entails being interested in people and stuff outside of you. This means being much less concerned with yourself and what others think about you. It is the gateway to being relaxed and comfortable while in the company of others and therefore more mindful of other people.
